June 14, 2018 Alex 0

Former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon has been meeting with cryptocurrency investors and hedge funds recently after getting fired from the job ten months ago. The former Breitbart News executive chairman is in talks with them about launching an initial coin offering through his investment firm Bannon & Company.

Bannon confirmed to The New York Times in an interview published today that he has a “good stake” in bitcoin. “Control of the currency is control of everything,” he said. Samsung upgrades the Chromebook Plus with a second camera and new processor

June 14, 2018 Alex 0

One of last year’s most talked about Chromebooks is getting an update this month. Samsung announced the second generation of its Chromebook Plus today, which will include a few upgrades like a second camera and new processor.

The Samsung Chromebook Plus (V2) doesn’t stray too far from the size and style of the original model that came out in early 2017. The device can still switch between laptop and tablet modes, and comes with a built-in pen that doesn’t require any charging for sketching and note taking on the go.

The biggest change you’ll see is to the processor
The biggest change you‘ll see is to the processor, which is switching from an ARM-based chip to an Intel one. The original Chromebook Plus used an ARM-based chip to help it…

June 14, 2018 Alex 0

Are you ready for some football? No, it’s not time for the Super Bowl. It’s the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the biggest football (okay, fine, soccer) tournament in the world. This year’s tournament kicks off today in Russia. Matches will run over the course of the next month, leading up to the finals on July 15th.

Since the matches are taking place in Russia, the games will likely air in the morning or midday if you live in the US. So that means you’ll probably want a way to keep up with the matches when you’re away from your TV. You can check out the full schedule here to see when your favorite teams are playing. (Editor’s note: The Verge would never condone goofing off at work to watch some of the greatest soccer stars in the world play for…

Nintendo Leans on Fan Favorites and Fortnite

June 14, 2018 Alex 0

Nintendo called in fan favorites, including Mario and Smash Bros., at this year's E3 in Los Angeles. Super Mario Party will be heading to the Nintendo Switch this October, joined by Fire Emblem: Three Houses and the giant robot combat game Daemon x Machina. However, it was Fortnite, the battle royale game that has become a worldwide phenomenon, that arguably stole Nintendo's E3 Direct show, with the announcement that a Switch version of the free-to-play game had become available for download via the eShop.

Incredibles 2 director Brad Bird: ‘It’s really just a big popcorn film’

June 14, 2018 Alex 0

Pixar is a tightly knit company full of creative visionaries, but few of them are as versatile as writer-director Brad Bird. After starting his feature film career with the traditionally animated feature The Iron Giant, Bird joined Pixar to direct The Incredibles and Ratatouille. He then moved into the world of live-action filmmaking, directing Tom Cruise in the action film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and George Clooney in the aspirational science fiction adventure Tomorrowland.

With Incredibles 2, Bird has returned to the animated superhero family of Bob and Helen Parr (voiced by Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter, respectively) and their three children. This time, Helen’s alter ego Elastigirl gets to take center stage as part…

Caviar drivers can now get paid instantly through Square’s Cash App

June 14, 2018 Alex 0

It’s standard practice to receive your paycheck every couple of weeks. But now Caviar, the food delivery service from Square, is launching an option for delivery drivers that’ll make the process of getting paid instant.

From today forward, all of Caviar’s couriers will have the option to receive payment immediately after completing a delivery, so long as they receive the money inside Square’s Cash App. From there, they can choose to transfer the money to a bank account, or spend the money right away using the app or one of the app’s physical cards.

“It really economically empowers couriers, and we believe it changes how on-demand workers access their earnings,” Gokul Rajaram, who leads Caviar, said on a phone call.

“Faster access to…

Nyko’s $20 cardboard arcade for the Switch looks to trade on the Labo’s success

June 14, 2018 Alex 0

Nintendo’s Labo kits captured the imagination of gamers everywhere with their creative cardboard constructions, so it was only natural that we’d eventually see other companies start to build their own cardboard creations.

At E3, Nyko announced the Labo’s first competitor: the $20 PixelQuest Arcade Kit, which turns a Nintendo Switch into a miniature two-player arcade cabinet. And like the Nintendo Labo that the PixelQuest Arcade is, shall we say, ”heavily inspired” by, players actually have to assemble the PixelQuest Arcade out of cardboard.

It’s a clever accessory, one that smartly leverages the Switch’s detachable Joy-Con controllers as the arcade-style buttons. (It has two included clip-on joysticks for a more authentic experience.) In…

Over 1 million OnePlus 6 phones were purchased in less than a month

June 14, 2018 Alex 0

OnePlus has sold over 1 million units of its latest smartphone, the OnePlus 6, in just under a month, according to company founder and CEO Pete Lau speaking with Business Insider.

Lau said the sales benchmark actually happened in 22 days — the two previous phones OnePlus released each took three months to reach the same milestone. While 1 million sounds like a large number, it’s quite small in relation to sales for phones like the Samsung Galaxy or Apple iPhone, which can move tens of millions of devices within the same amount of time, or less.

OnePlus phones don’t have the same availability to consumers as other, more popular companies. The phones are sold directly to consumers and aren’t supported by CDMA networks, so some carriers,…
